What Is An Impact Crusher?

An impact crusher (horizontal shaft impactor) is an advanced crushing machine widely utilized for secondary and tertiary stone crushing stages. Unlike compression-type crushers, it uses intense striking energy from heavy-duty blow bars to shatter materials along natural cleavage planes, resulting in highly cubical finished aggregates.

It is perfectly optimized for processing low-abrasive, medium-hard, and soft rocks in quarry plants, highway construction, and industrial recycling sectors.

Ideal Applications & Aggregate Materials:

  • Medium-Hard & Soft Stones: Limestone, gypsum, dolomite, calcium carbonate, chalk, and talc.

  • Recycling & Construction: Concrete aggregate rubble, asphalt pavements, brick waste, and glass.

  • Industry Scenarios: Aggregate production lines, cement manufacturing plants, construction waste recycling, and road base building.

How Does An Impact Crusher Work?

High-speed strike and collision mechanics delivering maximum aggregate reduction.

01
Rotor High-Speed Rotation
Driven by the heavy-duty motor, the horizontal rotor spins at high speeds inside the chamber, generating massive inertial striking force.
02
Impact Striking
Raw rocks feed into the chamber and are violently struck by the wear-resistant blow bars fixed on the fast-spinning rotor.
03
Apron Plate Rebound
The high-velocity shattered fragments are thrown onto the heavy internal impact apron plates, ricocheting back into the blow bars for continuous impact.
04
Grate Discharge
Stones are rapidly reduced until they are smaller than the adjustable clearance gap between the aprons and blow bars, exiting smoothly via gravity.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Find expert answers to the most common questions about our horizontal shaft impact crushers, including application limits, wear maintenance, and technical parts support.

Q1: What are the primary advantages of an impact crusher?

A: Impact crushers offer massive crushing reduction ratios and generate beautifully shaped cubical aggregates with minimal flakiness. This makes them the top choice for producing high-grade subbase and paving materials for concrete and asphalt roads.

A: While it can crush them, highly abrasive and hard materials (high silica rocks like granite and basalt) will wear down the blow bars exceptionally fast. For hard materials, we strongly advise deploying a Jaw Crusher followed by a Cone Crusher to optimize your operating costs.

A: The output grading size is easily controlled by adjusting the clearance spacing between the impact apron liners and the rotor blow bars. Our modern models are equipped with hydraulic adjustment cylinders to complete this adjustment safely in minutes.

A: The primary high-wear parts are the rotor blow bars and the impact apron liner plates. We utilize premium high-chrome alloy steel for our blow bars, significantly increasing their wear life when processing tough rocks.

A: Yes. When uncrushable foreign objects like metal teeth enter the chamber, the heavy impact spring or hydraulic pressure cylinder forces the apron back, letting the foreign material pass without cracking the rotor framework.

A: Absolutely. Based on your raw mineral specs, we can supply specialized two-cavity or three-cavity impact structures and modify blow bar materials to maximize your aggregate line efficiency.

A: For standard configurations like the PF1210 or PF1315, machines are ready for transit within 10 to 15 days. Complete crushing line modular setups take about 30 to 40 days to clear factory staging.
